Ghana's regenerative building materials sector is a landscape of green shoots amid complex challenges, carried forward by passionate individuals and committed institutions. So what could take root?

EARTH, once the dominant building material in Ghana, with traditional expertise across the country is re-emerging as a contemporary domestic trend. Still largely hybridised with cement, Ghana's earth entrepreneurs are constantly experimenting, refining the performance and sustainability of their products and methods.
BAMBOO, abundant and versatile, still awaits its moment. Scaling its use requires empowering local craftspeople through advanced training to unlock its full supply chain potential.
And TIMBER? In August 2025, Ghana became the first African nation to launch FLEGT licensing, automatically verifying timber exports to the EU as legally sourced. Yet domestic markets still depend on informal chainsaw milling. Here, tighter local tracking and the transformation of sawmill waste into fibreboard offer significant pathways for circularity and value creation.
