SCALING REGENERATIVE CONSTRUCTION: Global Scoping Study

Global availability of selected bio-based materials © Mule Studio

Purpose

As the Majority World experiences surging urbanisation and construction needs, nature-based alternatives for conventional carbon-intensive building practices are critical for achieving planetary climate goals. Regenerative construction, which actively restores and regenerates natural systems such as forests and landscapes, contributes to a more habitable, low-carbon, climate-adapted built environment. This project aims to identify scalable regenerative construction products and systems in Africa, Asia, and Europe, while considering technical design aspects and systemic drivers such as economic viability, political dynamics, and socio-cultural factors.

Impact

By identifying and validating high-potential intervention points, the project will build a portfolio of investment-ready project proposals that address systemic bottlenecks and advance scalable, high-impact nature-based materials for construction.
