On 9 December from 16-18:00 CET / 10-12:00pm EST, Bauhaus Earth will host an online workshop for students, young professionals, city officials, and NGO leaders in six partner cities as part of the Transatlantic Frontrunners project. In the workshop we will analyse each of the local contexts and identify best practices, resources, actors, and political conditions that can contribute to a just transformation of the built environment.

The analysis will build on the results of a field trip in September, in which the group visited best practice examples of building decarbonisation – from adaptive reuse to modular timber to innovation in biobased materials – in the German partner cities. The workshop will explore how the partner cities can encourage and enable these developments, all while centering the needs of residents for participation, job creation, and affordable housing.

Before the 2-hour workshop, participants will receive a briefing and be asked to reflect on their local context. During the workshop, they will have the opportunity to connect with city administrators and planners from their own city, region and across the Atlantic.

The workshop is open to university students of any discipline, young professionals (graduated within the last 5 years) working on the topics of planning, housing, sustainability, or economic development.
