Forschungswerkstatt / Research Workshop in Berlin

Unsere Forschungswerkstatt verbindet Forschung, Demonstration und Lernen. Nahezu jedes Projekt von Bauhaus Erde ist mit der Forschungsewerkstatt  verbunden: Hier testen wir Materialien, entwickeln Prototypen von Bausystemen, realisieren Ausstellungselemente und vermitteln Wissen in praxisnahen Formaten.

Die Forschungswerkstatt befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe unseres Berliner Büros auf dem Atelier Gardens Campus. Sie ist umfassend ausgestattet für Holzverarbeitung, die Bearbeitung von Roherde und Biofasern sowie die Wiederverwendung von Bauelementen. Auf 325 m² bietet sie die Infrastruktur zum Experimentieren, die Entwicklung von Prototypen und die kleinmaßstäbliche Produktion. Wir kombinieren verschiedene kohlenstoffarme Materialien zu Bauteilen, die den komplexen Anforderungen langlebiger Konstruktionen gerecht werden. In der Forschungswerkstatt entwickeln und testen wir bio- und geobasierte Materialien sowie hybride Konstruktionsweisen — von erdbasierten Bauteilen bis zu Holz-Lehm-Systemen — und untersuchen deren bauphysikalische Eigenschaften, Baukonstruktion und Potenziale für die breite baupraktische Anwendung im Bauwesen. Zugleich dient die Forschungswerkstatt als Plattform für Veranstaltungen, Vorträge und Ausstellungen und bringt aktuelle Forschung und Innovation aus aller Welt zusammen.

Our Research Workshop is a laboratory of research, demonstration, and learning. Almost every project at Bauhaus Earth is connected to our workshop. Here, we test materials, develop prototypes of building systems, create exhibition pieces, and share knowledge through hands-on learning formats.

The Research Workshop is located close to our Berlin office on the Atelier Gardens Campus. It is fully equipped for woodworking, the processing of raw earth and biofibers, as well as the  the reuse of building components. Spanning 325 m², the space provides the infrastructure for experimentation, prototype development and small-scale production. We combine various low-carbon materials to create building components that meet the complex requirements of durable structures. In the Research Workshop, we develop and test bio- and geo-based materials as well as hybrid construction systems — ranging from earth-based components to timber-earth systems — and investigate their physical and structural properties, , construction design,  and potential for widespread application in the building industry. At the same time, the Research Workshop serves as a platform  for events, talks, and exhibitions, bringing together cutting-edge research and innovation from around the world.

Unsere Forschungswerkstatt ermöglicht technische und materielle Innovation sowie Demonstration, Experimentieren und Wissensvermittlung.

Im Zentrum steht die ganzheitliche Entwicklung von Baustoffen und Bauteilen — von der Grundlagenforschung über Materialtests und prototypische Anwendungen bis hin zur Integration unserer Innovationen in Industrie, Reallabore sowie Aus- und Weiterbildungsprogramme für Handwerk und Planung. Unser Ziel ist es, Lösungen zu entwickeln, die ökologisch tragfähig sind und sich auch im großen Maßstab wirtschaftlich umsetzen lassen.

Our Research Workshop facilitates technical and material innovation, as well as demonstration, experimentation, and knowledge transfer.

At the core of our approach lies the holistic development of building materials and components. This involves fundamental  research,  material testing and prototyping and the integration of our innovations into industry, demonstration buildings and training programmes for the construction and planning sectors. Our goal is to  develop solutions that are both environmentally and economically viable, particularly  on a large scale.
