Mykolaiv Case Study
Taking a selected pilot building in Mykolaiv as a case study, the assessment guide addresses the repair of damage caused by military activity, retrofitting strategies to increase energy efficiency, and the reduction of embodied carbon through the use of regenerative and circular materials, all the while fostering a connection to local building culture.
Embodied Carbon is a part of FELICITY II, a program supporting Ukrainian ministries and the EIB in developing a pilot €30 million loan program for two municipalities, aimed at energy-efficient reconstruction of war-damaged residential buildings. A comprehensive concept has been developed with a partner consortium, consisting of EIB, dena, IWO e.V. and Bauhaus Earth. To ensure a broad uptake of lessons, a steering committee will include all relevant actors including the Energy Efficiency Fund (EEF), the EU Delegation and a wide range of Ukrainian NGOs. Criteria for city selection have been developed. Synergies with activities of other IKI projects in the building sector are actively sought.
Embodied Carbon is organized with the support of FELICITY II, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
FELICITY II is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the European Investment Bank and with the support of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, under the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). If you are (potentially) negatively affected by an IKI project or want to report the improper use of IKI funds, you can file a complaint via the IKI Independent Complaint Mechanism (ICM).
