As the effects of climate change become tangible in Brandenburg – evidenced by long periods of drought and devastating forest fires – the need to rethink how we build and consume energy is more urgent than ever. Despite these alarming developments, energy and (building) material cultures are only marginally anchored in today's school education or public discourse.
During the three-day workshop at E-WERK Luckenwalde from 7 to 9 July we invite participants to explore new ways of thinking by connecting art and science, theory and practice. Participants will engage with ongoing projects at E-WERK and work hands on with local materials.
Through site visits, material experiments, and collective design challenges, participants will create an ad-hoc material library and co-develop tools for advancing the Bauwende Germany movement for a transition in the construction sector.
Highlights include:
- A tour of the ‘Palace of Un/learning’ exhibition at DAZ, with discussions led by the curators
- A visit to the ‘Treffpunkt Bauwende – Regeneratives Bauen’ exhibition at the Bundesstiftung Bauakademie
- Group discussions, reflection sessions, and hands-on building tasks that bring theory to life
The workshop will culminate in a public presentation at the E-WERK Summer Show on 12 July, where participants will share their insights, tools, and material findings with the wider community.
Participation is free, includes lunch, and open to all – students, professionals, creatives, and curious minds alike. We welcome up to 15 participants from diverse backgrounds. To apply, please send your CV and a short motivation statement (3–5 sentences) about your interest in unlearning and/or regenerative design to hubmann@bauhauserde.org by 27 June 2025. Travel costs are not covered.
The workshop is a collaboration of Bauhaus Earth, Deutsches Architektur Zentrum (DAZ), and Bundesstiftung Bauakademie and part of the New European Bauhaus Academy (NEBA). It is supported by “Welten verbinden” – Kulturland Brandenburg 2024/25. With funding from Ministerium für Wissenschaft Forschung und Kultur and Ministerium für Infrastruktur und Landesplanung Brandenburg and support from Sparkasse Brandenburg and Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg.
